Three undergraduates in the Geography Department's Atmospheric Sciences Program have been awarded the Ernest F. Hollings Undergraduate Scholarship from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

Research by Dr. Christopher Elcik shows that a widely-recognized association between warm, tropical air masses and emergency room visits for conditions such as osteoarthritis is due more to strenuous physical activity than to atmospheric pressure.
