Internships: Internships and research experiences are a critical part of the Atmospheric Sciences major and for the development of skills required within the meteorological or atmospheric sciences enterprise. The major requires the following:Select one research or internship course (3 hours):ATSC 3990: Internship in Atmospheric Sciences (3 hours)ATSC 4911: Collaborative Research in Atmospheric Sciences (3 hours; offered as needed in summers)ATSC 4960R: Faculty-Mentored Undergraduate Research I (1-6 hours)ATSC 4970R: Faculty-Mentored Undergraduate Research II (1-6 hours)ATSC 4980R: Faculty-Mentored Undergraduate Research III (1-6 hours)ATSC 4990R: Undergraduate Research Thesis (1-6 hours)GEOG 3990: Internship in Geography (3 hours) While many of these internships and experiences occur during the summer, more and more are available during the academic year, either here at UGA, or off-campus, or online. Amanda Bowden (UGA 2021) doing a NOAA Pathways internship, forecasting and modifying the fire danger range at NWS Guam in 2019. Amanda was the first mainland student to do a Pathways internship in Guam! Morgan Alexander (UGA 2022) and Hannah Goodson (UGA 2020) in Hawaii, where Morgan was doing a NOAA Pathways internship and Hannah was based in Honolulu as a Weather and Environmental Sciences Officer in the U.S. Air Force.
