A Bachelor's Degree in Geography can be great preparation for a number of fields, including resource management, urban planning, public health, and environmental conservation. Students are often interested in using UGA's Double Dawgs program to use their geography major as a springboard to a Master's degree. Currently, the department has Double Dawgs pathways for our own graduate degrees as well as other departments offering professional/non-thesis Master's. Master's degrees in geography: Atmospheric Sciences BS/Geography MS Geography AB/Geography MA Geography BS/Geography MS Both the MA and MS degrees in Geography are academic degrees requiring a Master's thesis in addition to coursework. This can be a challenging requirement. Students completing this program should plan to have completed almost all their undergraduate coursework by the start of their fourth year and focus on graduate coursework and the development of a thesis project in those last two undergraduate semesters. They should also have a faculty advisor who is willing to supervise their work as a Master's student when applying to the Double Dawgs programs. For their fifth year as a graduate student, the department may have funding available for a teaching assistantship, but this is not guaranteed. Master's degrees in other departments: Geography AB/Public Administration MPA Geography AB or BS/Urban Planning and Design Geography BS/Public Health MPH (Disaster Management) Geography BS/Statistics MS (non-thesis) All of these degrees are non-thesis, meaning they require a capstone project or exam in order to finish the degree rather than a thesis.
