Can students start in spring or summer?We strongly encourage students to begin in the fall semester. Starting in fall lets you join a full cohort of incoming students and provides the best chance for funding. Can the application fee be waived?Unfortunately, no. Application fees are set by the Graduate School, and departments cannot reduce or waive them. What English proficiency tests are accepted?UGA accepts valid TOEFL or IELTS scores submitted directly from the testing agency.Scores must be less than two years old. Do I need to contact a faculty advisor before applying?We highly recommend connecting with Geography faculty who share your research interests before you apply.If you speak with a potential advisor, be sure to mention them in your personal statement. When will I hear back about Ph.D. admission?Most decisions are made by March, though some may come later. How do I apply for funding?During the online application, you’ll see an “Additional Information” section.Under “Financial Assistance,” simply select “Yes” to be considered for departmental funding opportunities.
