Jill Gambill

Jill Gambill is public service faculty and coastal resilience specialist for the University of Georgia Marine Extension and Georgia Sea Grant. She is affiliate faculty with the UGA Institute for Resilient Infrastructure Systems (IRIS) and Georgia Initiative for Climate and Society.

As co-author of Georgia's first and second municipal sea level rise plans, Gambill has earned national recognition for her work with communities across the Southeast U.S. These planning efforts have been featured in the 4th National Climate Assessment, selected as case studies for the U.S. Climate Resilience Toolkit and presented on the Senate Floor as examples of effective climate adaptation planning. These accomplishments have earned Gambill and her collaborators the 2017 University Economic Development Association’s Award of Excellence, the 2015 National Sea Grant Superior Outreach Award and the Georgia Trend Magazine’s 2014 and 2016 Four for the Future Award. She serves as co-chair of the Georgia Coastal Hazards Community of Practice, is a NOAA Weather Ready Nation Ambassador and a delegate for the Extension Disaster Education Network (EDEN). She additionally is a core coordinator of the Georgia Climate Project, a statewide consortium of universities, colleges and partners working to improve understanding of climate impacts and solutions in Georgia.

In addition to her scholarship and public service, Gambill has mentored or supervised 18 undergraduate and graduate students since joining the university in 2010. She holds an M.A. in Peace and Conflict Studies from the University of Sydney in Australia, a B.A. in Philosophy from Cardiff University in Wales and is a 2013 graduate of the Institute of Georgia Environmental Leaders (IGEL) at Georgia State University. A member of the Blue Key National Honor Society, Gambill is currently completing her PhD in Geography and Integrative Conservation at the University of Georgia.
